At SIB, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact. To this end, our events organizing team collaborates closely with the SIB EcoImpact working Group to develop strategies that reduce the environmental footprint of our events.

Here are the key efforts undertaken:

  • Digital materials: all conference materials are available online to minimize paper waste (a printed programme will be available upon request).
  • Local suppliers: we work with local partners wherever possible. Especially for catering and technical services.
  • Sustainable food: lunches are 100% vegetarian. Dinners are 80% vegetarian, with meat as an option, using seasonal ingredients sourced locally as much as possible.
  • Waste reduction and reuse: we avoid the use of single-use plastics and encourage participants to bring their own cups/bottles. Attendee badges are printed on cardboard (recycled paper if possible), to avoid the use of plastic sleeves. Lanyards will be collected  for reuse at the end of the conference.
  • Transportation: we encourage participants to travel to Basel by train and to use public transport during the conference. We are also optimizing travel for speakers: The "Speaker Roadshow" initiative has been set up for speakers to combine several events or presentations through a network of partners in Swiss universities and research institutes.

Together, let's create a sustainable and environmental-friendly conference.
